B. Administration in dogs
- Flea prevention and treatment
A single application provides 4 weeks of flea prevention. When used as part of flea allergy dermatitis treatment, administer monthly.
- Treatment of biting lice (Trichodectes canis)
Apply once. In some animals, a second application may be recommended after 30 days based on veterinary examination.
- Treatment of ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestation
Apply once. Gently remove ear wax from the external ear canal; a second application may be needed after 30 days based on veterinary examination. Do not apply directly into the ear canal.
- Treatment of sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis)
Apply twice at 4-week intervals.
- Treatment of demodicosis (Demodex canis)
For demodicosis, apply at 4-week intervals for 2–4 months; marked improvement is observed especially in mild-to-moderate cases. In severe cases, more frequent and prolonged use may be required. In such severe cases, enhanced efficacy can be achieved by using the product weekly for an extended period as directed by a veterinarian. In all cases, continue treatment at monthly intervals for 2 consecutive months until skin lesions disappear. If no improvement or no change in parasite numbers is observed after 2 months of treatment, discontinue and administer an alternative treatment or consult a veterinarian. Because demodicosis is a multifactorial disease, underlying endogenous diseases should be appropriately treated whenever possible.
- Prevention of heartworm (D. immitis) and subcutaneous dirofilariasis (D. repens)
Dogs living in or traveling to heartworm-endemic areas may become infected with adult worms. Therefore, precautions must be followed before administering this product. To prevent heartworm and subcutaneous dirofilariasis, use regularly every month during the period when mosquitoes (intermediate hosts of D. immitis and D. repens) are active. Use year-round or start at least one month before the expected first exposure to mosquitoes and continue monthly until one month after the last exposure. For effective administration, dosing on the same day each month is recommended. When replacing another heartworm preventive with this product, the first dose should be administered within one month of the last dose of the previous product. In areas where heartworm does not occur, dogs are not at risk of heartworm infection; therefore, use without special precautions.
- Treatment of heartworm microfilariae (D. immitis)
Administer monthly for 2 consecutive months.
- Reduction of subcutaneous dirofilariasis microfilariae (D. repens)
Administer monthly for 4 consecutive months.
- Prevention and treatment of Angiostrongylus vasorum
Apply once. In some animals, a second application may be needed after 30 days based on veterinary examination. In endemic areas, regular use at 4-week intervals can prevent subclinical infections of subcutaneous dirofilariasis and angiostrongylosis.
- Treatment of lungworm (Crenosoma vulpis)
Apply once.
- Prevention of canine esophageal worm (Spirocerca lupi)
Apply once.
- Treatment of roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms
Monthly administration in heartworm-endemic areas significantly reduces the risk of reinfection with the respective roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. In non-endemic areas, this product can be used as part of a seasonal prevention program for fleas and gastrointestinal nematodes. Monthly administration in dogs can prevent infection by Uncinaria stenocephala.
